"Oh being on the roof of mine won't do me much good, ours are practically built into the ground, so I'm already much taller than Honir's houses by being in this tree," she made an idle gesture towards the houses and then herself and the tree.
"Not on my own, I helped the elves... or rather, they helped me, but my intention was to help... I'm afraid my intentions don't mean much, though, I'm not very good at fighting and the sort. So... I'm not sure what to do."
"Is the first time I come near the houses at Heimdall's, I had no idea." It's rather cute but he can see the inconvenience it's a good ting has taller houses because Peter's 6′ 2″ self would have had issues living in a short house.
"We can test your theory on my ship. Climbed it enough times to know how to get to the top without issue. The wing that's not broken is also a wonderful place to sunbathe on sunny days or to stay under it if you want some shade instead." Both things Peter has done on the regular after working on said ship.
Alice explanation makes him tilt his head, eyes wide in a show of confusion. "We have elves in the city? And intentions are good enough sometimes, Alice, but these kind of things are dangerous. You need to be careful, you could have gotten lost or hurt."
"How would we test a theory on a ship that cannot fly?" she asked as she moved to give him room on her branch if he chose to join her.
"We have three at least! Lady Galadriel, King Turgon, and Lord Elrond, they were brought here just like we were," she patted the tree, wanting him to climb up.
"Trees aren't dangerous, trees are all about protecting us and everything else. Oh- but you mean the hole. I was safe, that's why I went... I just... how am I supposed to sit by while everyone else is doing something?"
Peter notices her moving and her intentions, and starts to climb the tree with ease while holding the paper bang with his teeth so he has his hands free. It's a good thing that what's inside it's very light.
He only pauses for a moment to make sure the branch she is sitting in is strong enough to support his added weight. Once he's convinced, He sits next to Alice, the present in his lap.
"That's more than I ever imagined, I'd have to meet them one day. There's a lot of Kings and Queens in this city." At Alice's explanation, he gives the girl a sympathetic smile. He gets it, really, the need to be useful and being unable to stay behind if others need help. "You don't have to stay idle but you need to be careful about the ways you chose to help. And first you need to protect yourself, I could give you a few self-defence classes if you want. Oh! I brought you a present too."
Peter handles her the paper bag with the cat plushie inside. It took him a while to find the perfect one.
"Well, you'll fit right in as a Lord of the stars! They'll find you fascinating, I'm sure! It's not every day you meet a someone who has traveled among the stars never mind is the lord of them, after all!" She knew there wasn't much about herself in comparison to gods, royalty, heroes, and elves. She was a little girl and nothing else.
"Self-defense classes?" she tilted her head and then smiled when he sat next to her, the limb bending under the extra-weight but holding them both safely and easily.
"A pre- EEEEEE!" she was quick to take the plush, hugging the little kitty close. "I love it! I love it so much! Look at its precious face and paws! I LOVE HER!"
"You think too highly of me." He reached out to ruffle Alice's head, careful not to undo the bow in her hair.
Everyone was important, in Peter's opinion, big or small. Just like everyone was part of the universe. You never know when someone is going to make a difference, so he's not quick to judge or dismiss others. Besides, most of the biggest jerkass he knows are people with power, as opposed to 'normal' girls with kind hearts.
"Yes, just so you know the basics about how to get out of a bad situation. Even if it's just kicking someone in a vulnerable place and then running."
Peter doesn't do it because he's too stubborn but he also doesn't see the shame in avoiding trouble with a quick retreat. The best way to win a fight is to not engage in one in the first place. He's about to say something else when Alice's reaction to the plushie gets a loud laugh out of him.
"I can tell. I'm happy you like it. I figured a kitty was a good option." Mainly because she mentioned liking them in the past. "Ah her, uh? Now she only needs a good name."
"Kicking someone in a vulnerable place?" she tilted her head as she began to pet her new kitty. She looked to the kitty and then back to Peter. "What's a vulnerable place? Is it the toe? Because I've stubbed my toe and its hurt a terrible amount. Or I've hit my shin sometimes, is that a vulnerable place too?"
She presses all sorts of kisses to the little stuffed cat.
"It's a very good option, and I'm going to name her Toffee. And of course she's a she, look at her face!" she held out the kitten again. "That is a pretty kitty named Toffee's face."
"Yes, usually in the stomach or between their legs." It's probably not something a seven years old should know an about but given that they're in a city full of gods and strange things happen all the time, Peter does believe it's important to tell her.
"The toe is also a good place! If someone tried to grab you or is threatening you, stomp on their feet and run away as fast as you can. Don't look back, that wastes time and you might trip on something. The shin...well it hurts but you need to kick it really hard because it's all bone down there. Better go for the softer bits."
Peter Quill: giving parenting lessons of the year. His eyes soften at seeing Alice so happy with the stuffed toy. He's glad she likes it so much.
"Yes, you're right. That's a lady face that screams Toffee, good choice. She looks very happy about it."
"Between their legs?" she tilted her head. "Can't they just bend at the knees?" Alice didn't know about how painful it was for boys to be kicked in such a place. "It all seems very mean to hit or kick anyone at all, though. I don't like the idea of hurting someone." She knew that fencing, archery, and boxing were all very lady-like hobbies to have, but you never hurt anyone! Well, maybe in boxing, but Alice had never been to a boxing match, she had only seen an article about it in her sister's magazine.
At his mention of the softer bits she reached out and poked him in the stomach and then his arms and then his cheeks.
"This is the only soft bit you have," it was actually quite surprising how much of him was hard to the touch.
"Yep. If you hit them just right, they will bend over completely." Ah, bless her innocence. "That's only a last resource. if someone's being mean or trying to hurt you, you try running away first. But if they don't let you go then is when you can kick them."
Honestly, Peter sees no problem in running away when you are being attacked without means to defend yourself. It gives you a chance to prepare and fight another day.
"Ah, well...maybe I need to start exercising more." His smile falls a little when Alice pokes him in the stomach but he can't be frustrated for long when she's acting so cute. "Good, I'm sure you two will become best friends in no time. What do you say? Do we get down the tree and I show you how the network works?
