Natasha just didn't have anything else to do. Working for the Avengers was all she had left. Or so she felt. Over those five years it came down to the fact that no one else was left to do it. Everyone was either gone or out doing things as needed. She stayed in one place in order to make sure they were all connected.
Someone had to do it.
When she died, that should have been it. Done. No more work. No more Advenger'ing. No more saving a world. Yet here she was, alive again and keeping her post. Someone had to do it, right?
She had liked Rocket. He was sassy and out there. Didn't take shit. She liked hearing about Peter and the others as well, when the other would talk about them. So she had a lot of information on the Guardians, with out having great details.
Still, Peter seemed okay.
When she got the message from Rocket, she sighed but did pack a small bag, knowing that the random accidental conversation with Peter the other day had tumbled into 'you need a vacation', was about to come true. True to his word. Rocket had mentioned that in a way as well, so she wasn't surprised.
When the ship came down near Avengers Tower, she stood outside, her hands on her hips, looking up at the Benatar and it's crew. He told her SHE was late. She scoffed at that, looking up at the ship and crew before rolling her eyes and moving closer. Late. Whatever.
"I'm never late. I'm always exactly on my time." Land the damn ship so she can get the feeling of being in space again. Or maker, why was she agreeing to this again?
Someone had to do it still to ensure no more Thanos-sized problems will happen but it didn't have to be her. Natasha has already done much more than most, paid a high price, and thankfully managed to get back to them thanks to Tony's sacrifice. Peter didn't know the man well but judging from what everyone has told him about Stark, it sounds like he would have approved of her taking a well-deserved break.
And if Natasha isn't going to do it on her own, they are happy to contribute and give her a little push. Or kidnap her to space and drag her to the other side of the galaxy, whatever it takes.
Peter smiles at her reply because that isn't a 'No, you are all insane and I am not getting into that ship' answer, so he immediately considers it a win.
He waves his hand to indicate that he was about to turn the Benatar. Manoeuvring the ship around and parking it to lower the ramp for her doesn't take Peter more than a few seconds. Mantis and Nebula are overjoyed to have another woman on board, or rather, Mantis is happy and Nebula doesn't complain, which for her standards is a seal of approval. Once Natasha steps in they're ready to greet her with a chorus of 'hello!'s and to take flight before she comes back to her senses. Looking over his shoulder, Peter motions to the empty seat next to him for her to sit.
